How to Claim a Kerala Lottery Prize

Documents, deadlines, and where to go — everything you need to know

Important: All Kerala Lottery prizes must be claimed within 30 days of the draw date. Unclaimed prizes are forfeited and cannot be recovered after the deadline.
Step-by-step claim process

How to claim your prize

1
Verify your winning ticket
Check your ticket number against the official result published in the Kerala Gazette. You can also use the ticket checker on each result page on this site. Do not rely solely on unofficial sources — always cross-check with the gazette.
2
Sign the back of the ticket
Immediately sign your full name on the reverse side of the original winning ticket. This establishes ownership and protects your claim if the ticket is lost or stolen.
3
Gather your documents
Collect the required documents before visiting any office. See the documents checklist below. Missing documents will delay your claim.
4
Visit the right claim location
Where you claim depends on the prize amount. Small prizes (up to ₹5,000) can be claimed at any authorised agent. Larger prizes require the District Lottery Office or the Directorate in Thiruvananthapuram. See the prize tiers table below.
5
Submit your claim form
Fill out the prize claim application form at the lottery office. Submit it along with your original ticket, ID proof, and PAN card. A receipt will be issued. Keep it safe until the prize is paid out.
6
Receive your prize (after TDS deduction)
Prize money is paid after deducting TDS (Tax Deducted at Source). For prizes above ₹10,000, a 30% TDS applies under Section 194B of the Income Tax Act, plus applicable surcharge and cess. The net amount is paid by cheque or bank transfer for large prizes.

Tax on Kerala Lottery prizes

TDS and income tax rules

Prizes above ₹10,000 are subject to 30% TDS under Section 194B of the Income Tax Act, 1961.

An additional surcharge and health & education cess applies on top of the base 30% TDS for very large prizes.

The TDS is deducted at source by the lottery department before paying out the prize. You will receive a TDS certificate (Form 16A) which can be used when filing your income tax return.

Lottery winnings are not eligible for any deductions under Chapter VI-A of the Income Tax Act (e.g. 80C, 80D). The tax applies to the full gross prize amount.

Winners are advised to consult a qualified tax professional for personal tax filing guidance related to lottery income.
